Description
From mop-top singles to late-60s studio experiments, these 21 Beatles songs cover nearly the band’s whole career, all arranged for piano.
“Back In The U.S.S.R.” gets things moving at full speed, even without the roaring jet engine that starts off the White Album version. “Let It Be” began life at Paul McCartney’s piano, so it settles in here as easily as anything on the album. “Strawberry Fields Forever” holds onto its dreamy, drifting quality without the Mellotron intro, while “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” bounces along on the same jaunty piano part heard on the 1968 recording.
“Eleanor Rigby,” which famously featured no Beatle playing an instrument, trades its sharp string stabs for keys that hit just as hard. “Hey Jude” builds toward its long “na-na-na” finale like a crowd slowly finding its voice, and “In My Life” makes a natural last stop, since George Martin played the original’s Baroque-style solo on piano to begin with.
Without a single word sung, these songs still show exactly why the world caught Beatlemania in the first place.
