Musical theatre has always leaned heavily on the piano — as rehearsal tool, as accompaniment, as the instrument that holds most of these songs together in their most basic form — and Movies and Musicals, Vol. 3: All I Ask of You puts that to the test across a wide stretch of the stage repertoire.

The set moves through several decades of Broadway and West End writing, covering ground as varied as Seasons of Love, You'll Be Back, and Ring of Keys, and drawing from shows as different in tone and era as Rent, Hamilton, and Matilda the Musical. The Phantom of the Opera contributes three tracks — The Music of the Night, All I Ask of You, and Think of Me — giving that score more presence in the collection than any other single show. Les Misérables appears twice with I Dreamed a Dream and One Day More, the latter one of the more structurally demanding songs in the set, built on overlapping melodic lines that ask more of the arrangement than a straightforward verse-chorus song would. Quieter, more introspective pieces like She Used to Be Mine, Falling Slowly, and For Forever anchor the slower end of the album, while This Is the Moment and Waving Through a Window bring a bit more forward momentum.

The playing stays consistent throughout — smooth, melody-forward, and even in pace and dynamic from track to track. At just over an hour, the track list draws from enough different corners of the musical theatre canon to hold the album without repeating itself.
