Description
The Doors, Vol. 1: Light My Fire is a solo piano rendition of thirteen Doors songs, drawing from across all six of the band's studio albums, spanning from their 1967 debut through their final record.
Renditions like "People Are Strange," "Love Me Two Times," and "Love Her Madly" lean into that blues influence most directly, giving them a rhythmic energy that keeps them grounded rather than stripped down. "Spanish Caravan" preserves the flamenco and classical Spanish elements of the original, including a theme borrowed from a 19th-century Spanish composer that the band's guitarist wove into his part. "My Wild Love" is one of the more unexpected choices on the album, as the original was recorded with only vocals and percussion, making the translation to solo piano an interesting challenge in itself.
"Light My Fire" gets nearly ten minutes here, with room to work through both the organ and guitar solos from the original, fully reimagined for solo piano. "Riders on the Storm" was the last song the band recorded with Jim Morrison — and takes a looser, more improvisational approach that gives the piece a slightly different character than the version most people know.
The Doors, Vol. 1: Light My Fire is a wide-ranging set that touches on most corners of the Doors' catalog, giving fans of the originals plenty to recognize along the way.
